No, discus are freshwater fish and would die if subjected to brackish conditions. They prefer an acidic pH; between 7.0 and 6.4 is perfectly suitable for a non-breeding setup. The range would be tightened a bit if you wanted to breed the fish.

Although discus prfer an acidic pH (under 7.0), my discus do fine with a pH of 7.6. I have friends who have their discus in water as alkaline as 8.2. The key for discus is clean water, that means water changes!

indeed it is much healthier to keep discus in a tank were water conditions are stable. it i better to keep discus in a pH similar to that which comes out of your faucet, than to change it to match the "ideal" range, cause then u have a more likely chance that the water parameters will fluctuate.
