They prefer an acidic pH; between 7.0 and 6.4 is perfectly suitable for a non-breeding setup. The range would be tightened a bit if you wanted to breed the fish. And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I have friends who have their discus in water as alkaline as 8.2. Megil TelZeke Fish Addict Posts: 863 Kudos: 890 Votes: 393 Registered: 21-Jul-2003	indeed it is much healthier to keep discus in a tank were water conditions are stable. it i better to keep discus in a pH similar to that which comes out of your faucet, than to change it to match the "ideal" range, cause then u have a more likely chance that the water parameters will fluctuate.
