I have two frontosa that I rescued from someones 20 gallon tank but anyway they are about 3-4" I think and I think they are male and female. One seems to be getting a hump on its head and is a little bigger then the other one. So if they are a pair at what size sould they breed?

They wont breed until they are 3-5 years old. I had a colony of 6 that were 3 years old and the male was 10". They had not attempted to breed while I had them. It is also unlikely that they will in a pair. They need a large tank and prefer to be in a group. As they get older they become quite territorial so provide lots of caves and rocks for them.

What size tank do you have for them? Do you know how old these ones are?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I doubt they are 3 years old, unless they have been severely stunted. IF the male is only 3-4", I'd say about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Usually males need to be 7-8" and females 6-7" to breed.

I think the answer is, when they are larger, they can breed, but may not actually breed. I'd invest some money for a colony and a large tank.

If they were in a 20g for a while they could be that age and size and be suffering stunted growth.
I agree with inko, if you want them to have the opportunity to breed then get them into a colony and a larger tank.

If you cant get them in your area, try ordering online (armkes, neptunes, bluechip, etc)
