when they are small(frontosa, and brichardi) is their a general rule do sexing them when small, something about the dorsal fin being pointed or rounded. like in kribensis.

I think if you're going sex the fish based on the shape of the dorsal fin, the male would have the more pointy fin and the females fin would be more rounded.
How big are the fish you're talking about?

small around less than 3 inches, i was looking at them, i saw a few with a more rounded dorsal, <(frontosa) and in the birchandi i have two bigger ones and a smaller one, now, i had one for awhile, but in the past week i bought the other two at the same time, and looks to be about the same spawn, the larger one (i think male) has a longer dorsal than the other, but idk if that is just b/c it is bigger than the other one.

i know finage is not the right way, due to fancier fish being produced, so what else is there to look for in young/small fish.

Behaviour. Usually you'd spot a male frontosa in the group if it's alot more active and bosses the others around. Usually, it has the best territory also. Females would usually huddle around each other. This is IME, not facts, but it does work. Males would grow much more faster than the females also.

Male brichardis usually have a small hump, while females have an even forehead.

Fins hardly account for sexing frontosa and brichardi, rarely do they tell the story.

Fronts are fairly difficult to sex unless you vent them. The pointed ventral/anal fin is mostly in new world cichlids.

these are still very small/young fish, but i will keep an eye out, with the birchandi~ i dont notice anything different in the bump, but with the growth, is it the same in them, as in the males will grow faster.

How would you tell a young male krib from a young female krib, I have a female and would like a male, should I keep 2 males (if I can find 2) or just try and get one? Also how would they do in a tank with 5 tiger barbs, 2 flying foxes, 2 rainbow sharks,(at least one will be coming out soon), and 2 zebra danios (they may be moving with the shark)Thanx in advance.?

The pelvic fins of the females are rounded, while male kribs have a point.
