hi, i have 3 discus in a community tank and need suggestions for surface dwelling tankmates.
options im considering include gouramis, smaller rainbows or killifish.
we still have 3 danios but they are the remainder of an old school and 9 i think adding young danios would be to much for discus in terms of their high speed and activity.

full stocking can be seen on my profile

Gourami's requirements are probably a bit too different to the discus and they can be a bit nippy. I have had rainbows in with my discus before successfully and they look sensational.

Also be careful as 3 can be a rough number for discus as you can almost guarantee that 1 will be made a scapegoat and be picked on by the other 2 just something you may like to consider.

we added the 3rd to dissipate aggression between the origional 2, that seems to have been a succsess but if any 2 of the 3 pair up then we will need to look at moving the odd one.
what we are looking for is something to replace the danios as the top 3rd of the tank is quite empty looking

I strongly recommend hatchet fish. Nice complement to the discus and they are from the same biotope.

Go with a school of Rummynose Tetra's. They are very beautiful & don't bother the Discus.
