Hokese,

Most commercially prepared foods are balanced and contain vitamins. However, your large fish are also carnivores and like protein. The advice that the veterinarian gave you was excellent.

Here in the states, I add earthworms and redworms to the diet of my discus as an evening treat. If these are available in Oz, give them a try!

Many hobbyists prepare their own turkey or chicken or beef heart mixtures. If you can wield a knife and remove ALL of the fat from a heart, you may want to give this a try. The caution is that fish are unable to process animal fat so the fat must be removed, the meat must be ground very fine.

Beef Heart is quite good & you can mix it with Peas, Spinace, Crab Meat, Mussles, Carrots & Prawns. Mush them all & then freeze them in Ice-Cube Boxes.
