Angels with discus is a very debated topic, as angels can carry the parasite that only affects discus and in fact can be fatal to discus.

The debate is over that some angels that have been bred in home aquariums and over many generations may have lost the parasite, but IMO I would not want to risk the point of the angels not having the parasite and then finding that I have killed my discus, but this is up to you to deceide.

GROWOUT means the fry of the discus growing and getting bigger. So when fry have been taken from the parents they are then transfered to a growout tank so that they can grow to a size that they then can be sold. Because of the big feeds that the fry receive the bare bottom makes it easier to clean as massive water changes are done daily for optimal growth of the fry.

Display tanks as what you want are fine graveled, mine are graveled, the only barebottomed tanks i have are my breeding tanks. You are on the right track with what you have suggested you want, go with it and remember do your house keeping with your w/c's and all should be fine.

I definitely don't want to get an HOB for this tank. So if the eheim is enough I'm going to stick with that. I'll just need to make sure it's always functioning properly.

That's interesting about the disease carrying possibility from having angels in the tank. It will be a while before i get the discus so if I have the angels for a some time before I add the discus will that reduce the possibility of infecting new fish? Or do the angels always carry that parasite once infected?

bare tank is just to make cleaning easier, nothing special about it

2026 should be enough, add another HOB if you can as a back up when yo have to clean your 2026 or if it failed

as long as ph being stable, 7.2 is definitely ok for them

keep temp around 82F for them

keeping angels with discus is possible, but it is possible for them to fight. But the main issue for Angels with Discus is that Angels sometimes carry Hexamita (I think...if it's not this..it's some other kind of parasites) which doesn't show any symptoms on Angels but will on the Discus. In fact sometimes people use Angels to encourage Discus to eat better due to competition for food.
