Does it sound like anything resembling a good idea to keep guppies with angels in order to provide live food for the angels in the form of guppy fry?

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

There's no need to feed your Angels live food. Frozen foods are very good & i've always had very good results with them. I find Bloodworms & Brine Shrimp are very good. You can also feed them Beef Heart & the Angels go mad for it.

I'd say no, for two reasons. Firstly, keeping guppies and their fry with the angels reduces the number of other fish you can keep. That means you may not have room for that Corydoras shoal, or those really neat tetras. Secondly, if there are enough guppies in the tank to provide a constant food source, the angels might fill up on the fry and not other foods. It isn't healthy to eat lots of baby fish; so while an occasional guppy snack is okay, it wouldn't be good long-term for the angels to be constantly eating them. They do need balance, and more nutritious foods. Just my thoughts.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Having them fill up on guppy fry is a good point, I don't want that. I do hope to give them occasional treats of live brine shrimp, but my SO has vetoed the keeping of frozen fish food in his people-food freezer. *sigh* The angels are going in a 65 gal tall tank with a large plecostomus and a few SAEs and that's about it. (the corydoras are going in my 30 gal as soon as the pleco moves out)

I once thought that getting one female guppy would be a good idea to give my fish live food about once every month would be an alright idea...

Six months later and I had more guppies than I ever wanted or expected to have. Apparently only a few of them get eaten and they are quite good in the survival game. If you want to give them live food, buy something that won't become a pest.
