danios and sword tails will be lunch for the oscar. 3 silver dollars work well. giant danios could work good, gouramis might or maybe even paradise fish. hope it helps

Anything that can fit in an oscars mouth can be ruled out. Sometimes, oscars choose their own tankmates and kill/eat the ones they don't like.

You could try silver Dollars, but when full grown the oscar will need a 90 and the silver dollars will need a 125 to provide the fish with swimming room, they are large and like to swim back and foth across tanks so you must have a long tank.

In other words, get a 125 gallon tank and then you can keep the oscar with fish it won't eat.

When will you be upgrading to a new tank and to what size? I dont think you should add anything to the 60g now unless it is very short term. Oscars grow very quick and will need all the space in that 60g for itself.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

If you want to add something i would go with either some full grown Emerald cories or a pictus catfish.

o ok. im just looking to 'revamp' the tank because it is empty and im going to give my convicts to a friend who is setting up a cichlid tank. so i was thinking to set up a community tank with an oscar as the 'centrepiece' but if that won't work then maybe a blue acara or firemouth maybe?

Firemouths are a good choice if you ask me. Id go with 2-3 and have danios and or barbs in with them.

There are a lot of fish that might do well with an Oscar. In my oscar tank i have: 1 Tiger Oscar 1 male Electric blue Haps cichlid (one of most beautiful cichlids), and 1 female zebra cichlid. they all are doing fine and do not mess with each other.
