one of my three discus has been hovering horizontally under a driftwood structure i have in my tank for most of today. is this normal behaviour, or something to be worried about?

Hi there,

Is he clamped and dark at the moment or has he got any signs of not being well??? Is he still eating???

Sometimes as Jacquie has said they do hide but also he might not be well.

Have a really close look at him and treat if you see anything.

Let us know whats going on.

as far as i can see he is fine. he's still eating, normally coloured, holding fins erect, not breathing heavily.

however, i think that the other two discus i have may have paired up. they have been pestering him a little for a while, but maybe now he has decided he's had enough.

if they are a pair, do i have to remove the "single" discus? i don't really have anywhere to put him...

suggestions?

No dont. As long as he is eating and shows no obvious signs of being unwell they will work it out. It will take time but as you said you have one pair and they will rule the tank.
Keep everyone posted.

Usually it seems like if they do make a pair, the dicuss would hide in the corner from them. Is the 1 discuss smaller then the others too? I have one pair now of big ones and only tiny one, but he is super happy and just does his own thing even those the pair sometime pick on him, is quicker and can hide easier then the big ones..

Hi Fulboar
Could you give more info??
Have you had it for long? Has this just started? what do you have in with it? Have you added a new fish?
