can i put plants in a pond? if i can what kind? ive been wondering that for a couple years now and now that i found this site its the perfect place to ask it. How complicated is it to keep live plants in a fish pond? In the winter would i just move them to my indoor aquarium? please help me.

the only ones out of those that need to root are the water lilies, the rest you can let float or you can root the hornwort and anacharis if you want,

Well if it freezes i guess you can bring them inside? I don't have that issue here in florida.

Back to plants for a moment: Many bog plants can be transplanted and kept indoors like regular houseplants during the winter. Plants like taro (Colocassia Esculenta), Canna Lily, various iris and papyrus (Cyperus sp.) can be kept in pots with dirt as long as they are well watered. For the pond, I put my plants in cheap plastic pots(the type plants come in from the garden store) and use generic kitty litter instead of soil. If they are to go inside for the winter, I cut away the plastic, put them into a larger planter and surround the root ball with potting soil. If you go with bog plants and want to bring them in at some time, look for dwarf varieties (my Nile papyrus gets up to 10 foot tall).
