Plants like taro (Colocassia Esculenta), Canna Lily, various iris and papyrus (Cyperus sp.) can be kept in pots with dirt as long as they are well watered. For the pond, I put my plants in cheap plastic pots(the type plants come in from the garden store) and use generic kitty litter instead of soil. If they are to go inside for the winter, I cut away the plastic, put them into a larger planter and surround the root ball with potting soil. If you go with bog plants and want to bring them in at some time, look for dwarf varieties (my Nile papyrus gets up to 10 foot tall). |
