I'm finding all sorts on information on these guys on the net. Size ranges from 2" to 4", some places say peaceful, others saying they are nippers.

So now i'm asking you people! Does anyone keep them or had them in the past? What are they like? What fish did you keep them with?
I would be putting them in a planted 55g. Only in planning stages now.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Lindy,
I've kept clown barbs in the past.
First of all you need to have a large (50 gal min.) tank to keep them in. Clown barbs are fish that remain in one place in the wild and because of that the tend to be territorial. Eventually one fish (usually a male) will become the "leader" and will chase all others. You need to provide enough room to swim and enough hiding paces (plants, rocks, etc.) for the "lower" fish. If the have nough room, they're very peacefull, docile fish.
I haven't seen them nip any fins or being agressive towards other fish.
Good luck keeping them!

Thanks for the reply Tinfoil. What would you suggest is a good group size for them in a 55g?
If I go ahead with these fish they would be in a planted tank with some cories and a couple bn plecs.

if you have the room to spare, I'd go for 7.
I think 7 is the minimal number for a nice little school.
Enjoy them!
