![]() | tiger barb troubles |
apologeticus![]() Fingerling Posts: 27 Kudos: 28 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Aug-2004 ![]() | I just started a 5 gallon tank for my daughter. I set it up, waited 24 hours, and then put in one tiger barb. He seemed to do fine, but then a few days later I added another (to go slowly as I thought I was supposed to) and they fight a lot.]:| One doesn't look in very good shape. What should I do? Add another to get more of a "schooling" effect, wait it out for a while and see what happens, or just not use tiger barbs in this tank altogether? Or something else? |

Also, you can add up to three at a time, that is still 'going slowly'. |

Having said that though, I think a 5g tank is too small for these fish. The behavior you are seeing is 'normal' for these fish when kept in a pairs or small groups, and I think you will find that eventually there will be a loser with no fins and alot of damage done. Any chance you have room for a larger tank so you can keep these guys happy? Maybe select different fish to keep in the tank instead? Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

I would get all males as they are colourful and you wont end up with loads of baby guppies to find tank space for. (females are often pregnant when bought) Any reason you dont want a betta? The tank is quite small so you are limited in what you can get. I'm not sure on the rosey barbs, i've never kept them myself. Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. Not only do they get to be 5" long but they are very active swimmers. They really do need the space of a 30 gallon (long) tank. ^_^ ![]() |
