My Bala's have had some strange behavior latly the two larger one swim really close together with there tails kind of crossing one antothers. Then the larger of the two chase all of the other bala's away and after a little while they begin the whole thing over agian. Is this normal behavior and if not what are they doing or what is wrong?

i was just going to post the same question - mine are doing the same thing! sometimes they swim with their tails crossed... other times one swims below the other with it's dorsal fin 'hooked' between the anal and tail fins of the other.... what are they doing?

Not sure if it is common but many fish have seemed to pair up and then snap out of it in a few days. Give your fish some time and see what happens.

Thats breeding behaviour. If you had a tank large enough - like 500g+ you would likely see them take spawning runs and maybe even get some babies.
They breed them in huge ponds in Thailand.

I'm glad to know it is breeding habbits. I wasn't sure. I saw that a few times after feeding.

Mine regually swim side by side then do the shimmy twitch thing. This seems to go on for several seconds then they go their own merry way.

3 of my largest balas in my tank (about 2-3 inches) are doing the same thing almost every time after I feed them.

I have a video of my balas doing it hehe.

you guys can message me if you want to see it.

That's it exactly Pete and that can be a real problem

The bigger my sharks got and the bigger tank I put them in the more they were inclined to do just that, the problem is that they gather up SO much speed that they wipe out every other fish in the tank including gouramis at the top and cories at the bottom and everything in between.

I've had my 2 sharks now for 2 years and they're around a foot long and something that big even in a 6ft tank which I have causes havoc with your plant and fish

I've given up with them and put them into my boyfriends 5ft cichlid tank and they're doing well
