It would be better to bump up your other schools before you consider getting Cardinals. Additionally, the highly active nature of the barbs and the Flying Fox (which will outgrow your tank) will most probably intimidate the Cardinals and cause them to hide all day.

Ah... I misread the post.

But regardless of whether it is a Siamese Algae Eater, Chinese Algae Eater, a Garra species, or what have you, it will indeed outgrow the tank.

All of those algae-eating Cyprinids grow to five or six inches in length and are active fish, and need at least a 35-40 gallon tank for long-term maintenance (even larger for the CAE).

I fully agree with Cory Addict. I would certainly not add any small peacefull fish like Cardinals as they could get harrased to death. A school of Tiger Barbs always looks good especially in a well all green planted tank.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Personally i think youi should fill out the shoals to AT LEAST 6 each, and then rehouse the CAE? and replace it with a few Ottos.

As the others said, increase the Barbs & Tetras schools first & then see what you can add to eliminate any Algae you might have.

CAE, SAE & Common Pleco's eat Algae, but outgrow the tank.
