Here in Perth we've broken the thermometer at 40.7 degrees Celsius.

I'm wondering, my tanks have been hovering at anywhere between 27 and 34 degrees. (80-95F).

Do I run the risk of stressing the fish or worse still cooking them?

95! Wow! I've had tanks get that hot once or twice and nothing died but warmer water holds less oxygen so you might consider adding an airstone to keep the surface nice and roiled. Also the roiled water will evaporate faster, cooling the tank as it does.

Hope it cools off for you soon, Mike

I'm inclinded to think that oxygenation isn't that bad, as EVERYTHING is pearling, and there are a gazillion bubbles on the surface.

And powerheads keeping the water churned.

The house is stifling, a good excuse to fit air condtitioning maybe!

In the high temps, the best thing you can do, is to have water movement and especially surface movement/aggitation. As stated above, the O2 levels become lower, and the water movement/surface aggitation helps maintaining the O2 levels up.

If your plants are all pearling more, this is a sign that the CO2 is higher, because they are using the extra CO2 to make the O2 of the additional "pearls". This is only if they are doing it more than normally that I would worry though.

I've installed a cooling fan across the surface of a tank (thank you canibalised PC) and now the tank has stabilised at 27-28 degrees C.

Just to give you an idea of how well it's working, you can feel the heat from the tubes coming out of the exhaust vents and as well as that I'm losing about 2 litres a day through evaporation.

As for the pearling I did assume that it was because of the lower O2 saturation level with higher temperature water.

I am a little worried that i might cause my PH to crash with all the CO2 being injected into the tank.

You can also float ice in the water or freeze aquarium water in put it in. That will lower the degrees of the tank but only for a few hours. SO if your home all day this may be something to look into. I wish i had your weather its like 9F around here.

You have trouble keeping them cold, we have trouble keeping them warm!!! -12C today outside with even nastier wind chill!!! I do think it is harder for the AC (ours sucks) to keep up with temps, ours can't quite keep up when it gets close to 38C here. Of course we haven't hit the coldest yet with the tanks in this apartment, so maybe I am talking too soon! I think the heaters here are alot better than the damn AC!!!
