40lt Cardinal Tetras how many? | |
keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | Tank Photos I have just rescaped the Betta Tank and it will become a Cardinal Tetra tank. I have always wanted a full cardinal tank ever since I saw one at a LFS 5ft extremely heavily planted with Java Fern only. It was way back before I even started fish keeping 40+ years ago. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos All the info is with the photos. Basically. It is a 45lt Bay front window tank which will now be about a 40lt capacity. It is well planted but within two years it will be far more established. The filtration will be as of next week a Hagen AquaClear 30 which is rated for a 114lt 30USgal The photo does not show it clearly but the substrate is about 10cm 3ins+ deep. Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I VOTE DO YOU if not WHY NOT? VOTE NOW VOTE NOW |

Alex Fish Addict 510 Posts: 721 Registered: 03-Oct-2004 | what are the tank dimensions because usually octagonal tanks have very little surface area in contrast to their rectangular counterparts which would really effect the number of cardinals you could put in the tank. Also i don't think you will have anywhere near the same effect as the 5footer in the LFS just due to the massive size difference. hmmm... my first post in a while lol |

I fully realize I can not achieve any thing like the 5ft just imagine the cost of the plants alone when I said full I meant full basically side to side and top to bottom was all Java Fern The surface area of my tank is 1344Sq cm 208.3 Sq ins Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Are Cardinals more hardy than the neons? I have heard that they are not as susceptible to overbreeding related diseases. Now, I just have to find some cardinals, they have been quite scarce lately. |

As far as cost in Aust they can cost a lot more. However, I know our breeder just recently started captive breeding the cardinals so that most likely explains the problems. I like cardinals best with a discus tank. Hope your tank goes well, it sounds great! |

I've just 8 of them in my ten now, had 10 but foolishly did a bad water change. Anyways now I have 8 and a pair of ottos. They really do need at least 7, I think. 6 or less and they all just hide until you leave the room. Slightly larger then the neons and a bit more hardy, my card tank is by far my favorite. |
