To Keith from another Keith

It could be several things, too much artifical lighting, excessive fertilising, or getting direct sunlight.

Gonna have to say no to all those, Keith. Lights have been on timers for many months now(problem just arose); don't use ferts in this tank; sunlight isn't a factor either. It might be excessive food and waste. I'll do another 50% with gravel vac in a day or two. Thanks.

Excessive nutrients. Water changes and vac should help.
Cut the lighting period down for a bit also.
Peace !

As I just mentioned in a post under Water Quality... we did 20% water changes daily, tested our water every other day, and threw in a ton of hornwort... took us over a week to get nitrAtes completely under control... and we are still keeping a close eye on our 10g. The biggest help is the hornwort... we have it in all 3 tanks, and in our 55g with good light it will grow all the way across the tank in 2 weeks... so we break it off and use it in other tanks. I highly recommend it for nitrAte control.

HTH,
Beth
