Any North American natives in your LFS? | |
pookiekiller12 Fish Addict Posts: 574 Kudos: 633 Votes: 41 Registered: 13-Apr-2004 | The only NA natives around here are the Texas cichlid and rosy reds. Oh, I almost forgot that channel catfish are around also. Please tell the country/area in which you live. I am in Tennessee. |

All are NA natives, none are banned from collections. In the past, they have had a number of pygmy sunfish types. If I remember the acts correctly, gamefish may be controlled but are allowed with a permit. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

Germany. For some reason, NA natives are BIG in Germany. And change hands for prices that will seem ridiculous to anyone living near the home waters of many of these fishes! For example, Lepomis gibbosus, the Pumpkinseed Sunfish. Would YOU pay $20 for a juvenile? The Germans do (or the equivalent in Euros). |

I also think a smaller tank with some TN natives(since I am from TN) darters. I have 4 darters that were contaminants of a LFS shipment, but they closely resemble the greensided darter. I do not think that is exactly the same species. |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | I've never seen any native fish in a store selling fish for tanks except I guess mollies. Those are actually native fish? I know none of the mollies I've seen came from their native waters in probably a dozen generations or more. I have netted a few pumpkinseeds out of the neighbors pond but decided a few months later they were too agressive for my tastes and returned them to their pond. I don't really like most cichlids aside from a few of the more peaceful ones and the pumpkinseeds acted just like cichlids. Definitely not peaceful cichlids either. I've been trying to find some darters but despite there being many species living in my state I've never actually seen one. |

BTW where have you been? Haven't seen you in a while. Rigth now I am keeping a warmouth... well so I thought! I started looking at [link=this site]http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://gwsphotos.com/images/2133.jpg&imgrefurl=http://gwsphotos.com/assets/AllSpecies.html&h=201&w=400&sz=50&tbnid=3jZx7OMz1AOb6M:&tbnh=60&tbnw=120&hl=en&start=9&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpygmy%2Bsunfish%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG [/link] and it looks much more like a green sunfish. There are a lot of sunfish that I have never heard of. Very pretty fish. 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

I have been running quite a bit, I was in once or twice when you weren't but it will catch up. I will be in tomorrow as I need CBW. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |
