![]() | Apple Snails question |
El Tiburon Tailandes![]() Hobbyist Posts: 132 Kudos: 54 Votes: 0 Registered: 10-Jan-2007 ![]() ![]() | There are five apple snails in the tank, theyve been in there for about 2 months at least, yet I havent even seen eggs layed anywhere. Theyre supposed to be a plague and a tough one at that. Kinda surprised my guys/gals arent laying eggs (reproducing) at all. Should I be this surprised or whats up? ETT. ![]() |

The pH was a little less than 7. I was advised to raise the pH slowly to 7.5 which I did by adding small amounts of NaHCO3 (baking soda). Right after one week, there was the first clutch of eggs. Plus, the water level should be six (at least 4) inches below the tank height as these snails lay eggs above the waterline. -Mughal |

They are not prolific breeders, but when they breed & lay eggs, you'll have about 100/150 tiny Apple Snails. After they lay eggs, they take about 3/4 weeks to hatch. The eggs are very visible & they look like a bunch of grapes, attached to the aquarium glass. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

If you have them in a small tank, the snails that arn't laying the eggs (the males or non-breeding snails) could be finding them and eating them before you see them. ![]() ![]() |

If they lay eggs, you'll see them for sure. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
