Some wood sinks right away, some can take days/weeks/months to water log, some will never sink.

You probably got a different type of wood than he did. I'd give it some time and see what happens. You may eventually have to attach it to some slate or something like that to weigh it down.

Wood come in many species and varieties. The heaver it is I am not talking about the actual size of the wood but its actual hardness it is then more likely to sink. Some woods will always sink and others will always float no matter what you do.

The wood you have might be a sinker but it is dry inside Just soak it for several weeks and to hold it down put a few big rocks on top of it.

If after all that it still does not sink you will have to screw it to a piece of slate using stainless steel screws .

Will remember that it will release tanins into the water, so make sure you change or add charcoal to your filter system.....After a while it will stop not completely but enough that if you run without charcoal, ie planted tanks, because the charcoal will absorb the liquid ferts. Keith mentioned attaching slate to it, I have found it is earier to attach a stone floor tile, it's thinnner and easier to work with....the weight and the gravel will hold it down. If all else fails you can use aqurium silicone and attack it to the bottom of the tank....This is gernerally done before the tank is established, but if you really love that peace of wood, just another opion

Some timbers will release tannins as long as the wood survives. By boiling it you have broken down the wood fibres and this actually speeds up the break down process.

I can buy slate floor tiles easy and they can be as thin as 1/4 inch -6mm or even thinner I wanted a few pieces and I got a broken tile free.
