This is 2 questions in one: First off, has anyone tried azgardens.com and would like to share their experience? Second, i want to get an apistogramma from them, particularly an agassizii. Does anyone know how to care for them and if theyre "shipping hardy"?

thanks in advance

Good company, great products, insane shipping prices. If I order any fish or shrimp from them the shipping is $50-$100. Definitely call and get a shipping quote before placing an order.

I was actually quite disappointed with AZGardens when I ordered from them. I do not like how they pack their livestock for shipping at all. They do not use styrofoam insulation, and do not appear to fill their bags with oxygen, just air like a pet store would. Delicate species like apistos would probably not ship well. I ordered 6 sparkling gouramis from them once, and only 2 were alive when I got them. When I sent them email about my losses, I never got a response. When you're paying $30-$50 in shipping alone, that just isn't worth it.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

Try liveaquaria.com too. They have a great selection, are well known, and I don't believe their shipping prices are too high.

My sparkling gouramis arrived fine but I lost half the shrimp and a few other fish because their heat pack quit working and it was near freezing outside. When I emailed them before ordering they said they even ship to Alaska and would check weather conditions in my area and send with a heat pack if needed. When we called them up the person that answered was clueless saying they don't provide heat packs(what's that taped to the lid of the box then?) and can't be responsible for weather conditions in other areas of the country. They did refund the cost of all the lost fish and shrimp without any proof of their deaths and no complaints but the problem is the cost of shipping is far more than the actual cost of the fish. Some of the fish were still cheaper than what I could get locally such as threadfin rainbows are $12/fish here but with such high shipping and no refund on shipping it is a bit of a gamble.
If it wasn't for their shipping costs I wouldn't have much of a complaint but since they charge so much and send by fedex which has yet to deliver a package on time or in good conditions I won't order fish or shrimp from them again. I still do occasional plant orders.

I have had really good luck on Aquabid, and have seriously only lost 3 out of I'd say 30 fish, crays, and shrimp received through the mail. You might also look into a Yahoo group that I frequent called Anubias Design: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/anubiasdesign/
Mark is a great guy and takes great care when shipping his fish. His prices are also pretty good, and he always has something new avaialble. I have NEVER lost a fish shipped by Mark. If he doesn't have what you're looking for, chances are he can arrange to get it for you. He does stock some apistos, and last month he did have some threadfin rainbows. He keeps his current stocklist posted, so take a look.
