I figured I'd share a little story with everyone.

Yesterday afternoon I want upstairs to feed the fish. Of course before I feed my fish I always wash my hands.
So as I'm walking over to the sink my 3 year old nephew asked me what I was doing. So I told him I needed to wash my hands before I feed the fish. He then decided that he needed to wash his hands before I did. As soon as he was done, I quickly washed my hands and ran to my tanks.
Before I even looked at my tanks, I asked my nephew what he did. His asnwer, "I fed your fish."
He sure did!
Almost an entire 4.5oz can of shrimp pellets were now sinking to the bottom of the divided 10 gallon Betta tank.

Luckily that tank has no substrate. So all I had to do was quickly siphon out all of the pellet mess. With all of that siphoning I ended up doing a 70% water change.
I keep reminding myself, at least he didn't feed either of my other tanks(which have play sand substrates). I can't even imagine what kind of hassle it would have been cleaning dissolving shrimp pellets off of sand.

Good thing you got those up, shrimp pellets are notorious for becoming fungusified with white fuzz and rotting to no end!! Consider yourself lucky that it was that controlled

All I can say is extremly lucky you were there and able to fix the problem straight away. I also would not feed them for at least 2-3 days just to make 110% sure all the excess has been removed from your tank.

Also did you do a filter cleaning as it also could be over loaded it as well.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I don't have a filter on this tank. So I didn't have to worry about that either.

As for the feeding, I didn't feed them anything on Saturday(the day it happened) or Sunday. Today I did feed both Bettas. But only three tiny betta pellets.

Today I did notice that the water is slightly cloudy. I believe it's just a light bacteria bloom. Since the Bettas are behaving as normal and even building bubble nests, I'm just going to leave the tank alone for the next couple days. Everything should be back to normal be the weekend. Then I'll just start up my normal feeding and water change routines again.

Aww... little guy was probably so excited to beat you to it!!. . . Sounds like the perfect time for him to have a Betta tank that he can take care of. (With Supervision OF COURSE). Start 'em out early!!

(side note - Sooo glad you were right there to catch it. Imagine if you didn't notice right away .. )
