I know this may seem like a stupid question, but seriously can they bite? I have 5 pearl danios and 2 zebra danios in my 32 gallon tank that is finally finished cycling and when I was rearranging some plants one of the zebras started to nip at my arm and now there are these two small lumps on my arm that look like mosquito bites. I'm quite sure they weren't there before.

They definitely can bite - but I've never seen a danio-size fish leave marks. Besides, if they'd bitten that hard, you'd have known immediately (OOOWWW! kind of thing).

Fish will certainly bite, my mild-mannered betta has bitten my finger a couple of times. I agree though, that danios cannot leave marks from biting. They have small mouths, and I'm not sure if they even have teeth.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I know that my danio's "nip", but it tickles, it sure doesn't hurt.

WELL I DID SEE AN ARTICLE ONCE WHERE SOMEONE GOT NIPPED BY HER FISH AND GOT MARKS WHICH THEN TURNED PAINFUL AND WHEN SHE WENT TO THE DOCTORS IT TURNS OUT SHE CAUGHT FISH TUBERCULOSIS IF I FIND THE ARTICLE AGAIN I WILL POST IT HERE FOR YOU ALL TO SEE.

Well the spots don't hurt at all really. I did't really feel the bite it just feels like a mosquito bite and it only kinda strings when you scratch at it. Is this something to be concerned about because i didn't even know humans could catch diseases from fish.

EDIT: I'm aware that they nip but if danios can't really leave marks, then what could it have been? I don't have any other fish in my tank, and I noticed these bites after I took my arm out of the aquarium.

Don't be to alarmed but yes humans most certainly can catch diseases from fish (like FISH TUBERCULOSIS) but it would normally not be so bad as it would be in the fish. You would only get a very mild dose compared to the fish. I will have a look around for that article for you because it had pictures of the marks on there so you would be able to compare your marks with theirs to see if they are the same or not. Bare with me though as it may take some time to find it again.

Yes they can certainly bite ask any fisherman some small fish are capable of giving a very nasty bite even taking out a piece of flesh.

I often have my fish nibble on my arm when I am working on the tank.

Yeah, they bite alright. Even little Bettas. I had one bite me
on the inside of my elbow which is quite a sensitive area, and it smarted a bit. Now Clown Loaches they bite. When hand feeding them, they bite quite hard. But nothing like a bigger fish, like a Oscar.

My SAE always seem to enjoy chasing my arm around the tank while I'm planting or something. Couple nips, but nothing serious.

Yes, they can bite but it wouldn't hurt much.

I've had my fish nip at me, but never hard enough to leave a mark. Of course, they generally only nip at my fingers, so that's a bit less delicate than the arm... I suppose they could leave marks on more sensitive skin.

I've never had my danios nip at me, but I HAVE seen them open those mouths really big, so I assume they could leave a mark if they were peeved.

Generally, when my fish nibble, it tickles more than anything (I'm talking mainly about my female bettas), but then, I don't have anything bigger than them.

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

I've nicknamed my favorite little female betta nippy cause she'll go after anything that moves. Which DEFINITELY includes human fingers.
