Home depot sells large acrylic sheets, I have one covering a 50 gallon tank. Get the thinner sheets with the blue covering, should be under $10.

I used books to keep my loach from jumping out.

It's free if you already have the books.

for now, use Glad wrap (saran wrap i think you call it)

Aluminum foil is a great alternative until you get a lid. And you can also use it block any holes, and mold to fit the holes.

how much do yoyo look to get out? i keep hearing how much people are worried about theirs and im planning on getting osme myself. should i be worried about them swimming up the overflows on my pengiuns? or shooting out my canister tube cutouts? i couldnt imagin trying to fill every gap on my hood dont think its possible. for the most part its sealed with obvious holes for items.

I have had YoYo's for over 5 years, and they have never tried to jump out.

my clown loach did jump out though.

Where's Waldo (or Wally if you're in the UK) books would be sufficient for a 50 gallon tank.

If you're going to replace the hood anyway, I would just go with a glass hood / glass tops. Even rotten petstores should have them at a decent price.

Ive Kept Yo-Yos for 3 years in tanks from 50g (16" tall) to 90g (24" tall) and have never had any fish jump out (incuding Yo-Yos) The 50g is a really old tank that had gaps of more than 2 inches at the back of the tank. I use Duct tape to cover big gaps (just keep overlapping it on the previous piece), it looks a little tacky but i cant find any canopies or hoods that will actually cover 2 of my tanks.

Why not buy a good glass top to start off with regardless what you use as a tempory cover you will still have to put a good top on any way.
