Co2 Not Working? | |
FLEXJr Hobbyist Posts: 61 Kudos: 32 Votes: 1 Registered: 26-Feb-2006 | So, this saturday i purchased a Red Sea Turbo Co2 Bio System. I did not realize until AFTER i bought it that your tank must be atleast 18" deep. I have a 29G and my tank is exactly 18" deep. The bubbles are supposed to dissolve into the water before reaching the surface, however... my Co2 tester still says that i have insufficient Co2 in my tank. I have even been leaving the co2 on overnight and there is still no change.. There is a constant flow of microbubbles so there's no problem with the actual device, i just cannot get the c02 into my water... Help is appreciated. Thanks! |

Wingsdlc Fish Guru What is this? Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005 | my Co2 tester still says that i have insufficient Co2 in my tank. What you really need to do is test your KH and your PH. This will tell you how much CO2 is in your water. If you have a high KH it is harder to get CO2 into your system. 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

But i tested the ph and before it had always been 7.2 and now it is 7.1 not much of a difference. I re tested the co2 using the co2 tester and it still says insufficient. I hope i didnt waste my money... |

FLEXJr Hobbyist Posts: 61 Kudos: 32 Votes: 1 Registered: 26-Feb-2006 | Okay so i've had this Co2 for a week today, and there's still no hope. I still do not have anything to measure KH. My co2 indicator still says "Insufficient", and my PH is stuck steady at 7.1 Are bubbles supposed to be constantly coming out or in short bursts? Also, if oxygen is going into the tank will it cancel out the co2 that is absorbing into the tank? Any help is appreciated. |

From what I have read, the more water disturbance, e.g. bubbles breaking the surface and agitation of the water (oxygen), the less CO2 will be absorbed. My CO2 was hooked up for less than 24 hours because I found my fish gasping the next morning, obviously too much CO2 and my ph had dropped dramatically. I'm not sure of the correct bubble rates but mine was coming out steadily through an airstone which I placed under a plastic dome so that every now and then a huge bubble of CO2 would be released. I'm sure that someone else more experienced will be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck with this, hope it works out for you. |
