Hi,
I'm in the UK and i'm wanting to change my 180 litre SW tank bank to FW as i no longer have the time or money to keep SW.
Does any one have any advice on how to do this??
I'm a aware of a few things with this like. Nothing saltwater exists in freshwater there fore everything is pollution.
I believe i will have to scrap my crushed coral substrate, filters and porrus rocks.
What is the best way to clean the tank it's self?? Do i just scrub it with tap water or should i use a cleaning chemical like shempro?

One of my early tanks was a SW with a back drop filter system. All I did was toss out every thing and just washed the tank out with a hose on the back lawn. That tank finally lasted about 15+ years. I am still using the twin plastic fluro unit and it is in perfect working order today.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

What type of filters are you using on the tank? If you are using HOB or canister filters, you could just rinse them out really well, put in new filter media and you should be fine.

You would also be best changing out the substrate like you said and switch over to a regular aquarium gravel or sand depending on what the setup is going to be for.

the tank is a jewel rio 180 so it has an internal filter.
plus a red sea prism skimmer which is now redundant.

I'm not familiar with the type of tank you mentioned, however as long as it has interchangeable media, then it should not be a problem.

Just take out the old media, rinse the system really well and add the new media and you should be fine.
