For more extreme circumstances, freeze some water in a plastic bottle and float it in the tank. Be sure to watch that the temp doesn't drop too fast, though. That'll stress the fish just as much (or even more) than a stable, albeit high, temperature. |

I've personally done both, and IMO the fan works better, but can only do so much. Be sure to eliminate your SOURCES of heat--heater, pumps, lights, etc. Put a fan on the lights (or raise them above the tank a few inches for a while), and on the water. Another good way to cool down a tank is with ice cubes. Be sure to make your ice cubes out of either dechlorinated or RO/DI water. Or if you have an RO/DI unit in your drinking water system that feeds your ice machine, you can use that. I use all three methods when my reef tank overheats... they all get the job done ![]() HTH |

It also depends on how much temp you want it to drop to. Extra aeration will certainly help. Remove the top and turn off the lights this also helps a little. In my 5ft tank all I could drop was 2-3c at the most but the Betta tank 32lt extra aeration droped it about 3-4c the tanks are in different rooms and it was easer to the Betta tank cooler. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith ![]() ![]() Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
