Metynnis hypsauchen
Common Name: Silver Dollars

in my 40g tall tank?

at the moment the tank is home to
5 corys
1 bristlenose pleco
1 dwarf gourami
15 neons
3 swordtails

but some of these can be moved in to my other tanks.

so would
4 silver dollers
15 neons
5 corys
3 swordtails

be ok in a 40 gallon?

cheers shekoi

I would advise against it. Silver dollars are very nervous fish, get large, and need a lot of space to flourish.

I have just re-homed 12 silver dollars. They need to be in a shoal of six or more. They do not function well with less they need the numbers to feel safe as said earlier they are a very nervous fish and need lots of room and space as well as a few hiding places or they become very with drawn and their health would then suffer. They also can grow up to a dinner plate size so imagine having 6 dinner plate swimming around in your tank. Have you thought about 6 disc tetra they still grow to about 4 and a half inches but at least half that of the dollars if not less.

And, besides all the things mentioned so far, I think they would eat all your plants.

shekoi,

How about 2 gouramies, like 3 spot, or the blue (or gold) version of them. If I am not mistaken then they get to about 6 inches. I think Keith has the blue one.

Congo tetras - orange/green/silver
Bosemani rainbows - blue/orange/white

Both get 3-4 inches, pretty active and get a nice robust colour when aging Very pretty fish, worth a look if you ask me!
