I rescently introduced 11 zebra danios to my outdoor pond and they are doing great. I was amazed that they did so , I heard that they could but some people also thought no. But the danios were on for 99 cents each so I said what odds and bought some. But of course they will only be in it until fall. I just thought id share the story.

Zebra Danios are among the best choices of 'tropical' fishes to let loose in a pond in the summer. They have a wide temperature tolerance - 65°F to 90°F - so they will relish having the space of a pond to swim about in.

If your weather is like that we're enjoying in the UK at the moment, with daytime temperatures in the nineties, then all manner of tropical fishes can go outside in a pond for the duration. Just be sure to keep an eye on the weather and bring them all back in when the temperature drops!

I hope you will be able to catch them when the colder weather sets in. How big is the pond and what else is in it?

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I believe my pond is around 350 to 400 gallons. Its a seasonal pond, because its only 1.5' deep so i have to take all the fish in in the winter anyway. I have 15-20 Rosey Red Minnows, 11 Zebra Danios, 2 Wether Loaches, and 6 goldfish ( two of them fancies ). The plan now is to remove all the comets and leave the two black moors in there. I sure that the goldfish will eat the danios once they get bigger so im going to solve that problem now haha.

aren't red rosy minnows very aggressive? and for them being in the same mid to upper swimming zone won't that cause problems.

Fathead Minnows are generally only aggressive when they are breeding. Other than that, they are a peaceful, though active, schooling fish. They also tend to stay at lower water levels than danios.

The Rosey Reds I have are very similar to the danios, in terms of temperment, I would even say less nippy if anything.

The question is do you have room to bring them in when they're much bigger in the fall?

You could chuck zebra danios into a puddle in your driveway after a rain* and they'd be happy, they're rezilliant little suckers. They were the only fish to survive a heater malfunction in a 20L i had set up who's temperature soard to well above 90.

*Do not put zebra danios in a puddle in your driveway after a rain.
