I would just like some opinions on if my tank is overcrowded
I have the following fish in my 29 gallon tank:

10 cardinals
8 silvertips
6 marbled hatchetfish
6 lemon tetra

What do you think?

no u dont have to many fish 29 gallon tanks are not that samll of a tank personaly i would get some catfish for that tank because u dont have any bottem level of the tank fish at all they are all mainly upper and middle of the tank i personaly love any type of cichlid or catfish but in your tank u would need to have a dwarf cichlid. but u could only get a catfish or a cichlid not the both.

No you don't have too many fish there but before you add any more I would like to know more about your tank. A photo would help. The filtration, substrate type and depth, plants live or fake (Live I hope) you water changes what percentage and how often.

thanks for the replies. and to keithgh..... i have 2 whisper power filters, i have two because they are both meant for 10 gallon tanks. I have very fine gravel about an inch and a half in depth. And live plants. I will take out about a quarter of my water every couple of weeks, i will try to get a photo.

And as for the bottom dwellers, i was thinking about getting a cory and maybe some kuhli loaches, what do you think?

Thank you for getting back so quick socrstud710

Now a few things for you to consider before you even think about adding any more fish.
Those two filters are possibly not suitable for your tank one good filter for a 40Gal would be far better, and certainly do a far better job.

Substrate 3ins is the recommended depth for live plants this also gives a good area for your good bacteria to live.
Water changes 30% weekly is far better for your fish and plants.

Fish what variety is the Pleco it could easily be too big for that tank?

No mention of how often you clean and how you clean the filters

yes i know that i need more gravel in my tank im just not sure how to go about putting it in there. and the pleco is just a common. I use a syphon to clean my tank and change the filter cartridges every two weeks.

To add more gravel it is as simple as buying the same type from your LFS it should be a mix of 1-3mm good gravel. Give it a very good wash several times to remove any dirt. Then just lay it on top and slowly run you fingers through it to mix it in. Also you do not want to disturb the gravel you have too much othere wise the tank will be dirty until the filters clean the water. What type of plants do you have as they "might" have to be taken out first..

Also, the common pleco is going to get far too large for the tank. Something like a Bristle Nose or Ottos would be a much better pick.

hey mate,
Yeah Ottos can be highly sensative to high nitrates in the water, if you can get yourself a Bristlenose plec.
Just as hardy and stays at 5-6 inches or so.

Glad to see you have plenty of live plants this help a lot with keeping the tank in good order.
