Wow, my 20 gallon shot up to close to 85 degrees today. It's the only tank in the room that is that hot. Usually it is around 80 when I turn the lights on, so that is all I can think of that would do it. It's a 65 watt pc, and is around 4" above the water line. Other than having my fan pointed at it, is there any other remedy to the heat in it?

You can try floating a bottle with cool water in it. Don't pour cool water directly into the tank as the rapid temperature change would practically be inviting disease by shocking the fish. Good luck.

Will that work on days I am at work? I've been looking for warm water fish to put in it so I don't need to worry about keeping it cool.

Move the water around a bit, and keep the lids off. You'll lose some water to evaporation, but it should cool a bit.

If you have a HOB, put a bottle of frozen water in there to cool the water as it comes past.

The frozen water bottle will certainly work. Can you add an extra air stone this will help in circulating the water. Also taking of the glass top will help. Just do a small top up each day.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

It's got a HOB and an open top, which was why I was shocked at the temp. . . The fan going near it seems to have brought it down quickly again though

What kind of light fixture? It might be possible to add a small fan or two directly to the light this will also eliminate a lot of heat from the lights that would otherwise transfer to the tank, and is rather inexpensive.

It's an open PC fixture. A block of wood hanging over the tank with the reflector attached and the bulb hanging from the part of the reflector that holds it in place. Though my fan pointing at it has helped out enough
