When I feed my Silver Dollars lettuce, I use a little clip thing. The Vegi-Clip. They eat the lettuce within 2 days. I heard that veggies turn poisionous after a couple days, Is this true? Thanks.

Depends on the type of veg, lettuce isnt the worst kind of veg though, in fact rotting lettuce can provide micro-organisms for raising fry on, but you can overload the filter by having too much rotting material in a tank, so ideally you should remove uneaten food before it has a chance to go into rapid decomposition. A lot of the harder veggies and particularly fruits, with their higher levels of fructose and other plant sugars can turn the tank into a bacterial playground. Pear and orange can be particularly bad, but none of them are as bad as a chunk of rotting beefheart or a dead fish!

I personally would not leave it any longer that a few hrs. I put a full lettuce leaf in my 5ft tank regually I place a small flat smooth rock to keep in one location. It is usually all gone within one hr. Have a look inn My Profile and you will see why.

Any uneaten food can/will polute the water.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info
