Most fish can go a week without food, but it isn't very fun for them. I believe that most pet stores sell a "Vacation Feeder", that is supposed to tide a tank's inhabitants over for several days. I have no idea how effective they are, or if they cloud the water or not. You might want to look into that.

Most mature fish, not fry or babies, can go a week without food without problems. But you may also look into the auto feeders at the LFS. These are devices that are run on batteries or wall plugs, and you just fill them with fish food, and they will automatically feed your fish each day you are gone. Not very expensive, if it helps to ease your mind.

HTH.....

I would use the feeder blocks.

The Auto feeders are good providing they work 100% correctly.

The feeder blocks could lase several days it depends on their size.

I would get a auto feeder. The good one you can set on a timer which can feed them like every 3days while your gone. They feeding blocks imo are kinda trashing and hard to measure how much to feed.

I am currently trying to compat a hair algae break out within the java moss portion of my tank. If i were not to feed them for the 5-7 days would it seem logical not to so they will eat the hair algae ?

Ive had lites off for 5 days now , just tell me wht u think of this.

There are only a couple of fish that will eat the hair algae, one being the rosey barb. So, no, I would not suggest they might eat the hair algae.

fish can live without food for 8-10 days. I have tried it myself ..last month when I was on vacation.
just feed them a decent meal .....slightly more than the normal daily supply just before leaving. works perfectly!
Its better if you have some plants that the fish can nibble on..that'll make them comfy.
