i am thinking of dosing my tank with excel but i have been told that if you keep clown loaches you should administer any additives at halve strength, is this so with excel.
any advice would be gratefully received
thanks

papasan.

Clown loaches shouldn't care about plant nutrients. I'm sure the additives people are referring to are those toxic nasties meant to try to kill diseases but still be at a low enough level not to kill fish as well. I don't have experience with clown loaches, but I do dose my catfish tank with ferts with no ill effect.

Agree with Shinigami. The "half dose" refers only to certain medications and it is normally stated on the packaging that it should be used at half strength for scaleless fish like clowns. If the packaging doesn't say, then use the medication at full strength.

An aquarium fertiliser though is harmless to fish and so you can use it at the recommended dosage for your size of tank. Certainly I've never noticed my clowns having a problem with it, although they do trash my plants from time to time.

Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.

Yea Plant ferts are no problem for dosing at full strength. The only thing I dose at half is ones that say on the instructions to half the dose for certain types of fish. So No problem.

When I had a snail problem in the Betta tank I had a small CL in there until he was big enough to go into the 5ft tank and I was using several Seachem Ferts and certainly not a problem.
Now medications are a totally different story CLs and other scaleless fish MUST have a different medication and usually applied at a different strength.
Always read the label first and understand it.

papasan... I have Dwarfs ..not Clowns ..but same thing as far as scaleless fish are concerned . I've been using Excel in both my tanks for over 7 months now and they are as healthy as any fish I've ever owned . No issue .
