I have 5 african clawed frogs, and would like to possibly add some snails to the tank to help keep clean. does this seem like a good idea? if not, why? any other suggestions? what type of snails? how many? thanks for any help.

You must really like ACF's. From what i hear, for any tankmate, they should be large enuoph so they wont fit into the frogs mouth. With that said, i would go with very large apple snails. I see these occasionally but they are a little expensive.

Hi,
I saw this question and no answers, and thought I'd do some
online research. What I found amazed me. I've seen these
tiny, usually an inch or inch and a half large for sale
in some of the LFS and often wondered about them and what
was necessary to rear them. I thought they were full size.
How wrong I was!

Here are some of the sites I found:

Interesting creatures, but I still don't know the answer
to your question. Do the snails become another food item
or will they survive and take care of scavaging the tank?
Dunno...

Frank

I think that big Apple Snails will be fine with the Frogs.

all i could find were mystery snails. the frogs keep rolling them over as they swim. sometimes i turn them back over. does the constant rolling bother the snails?

I have some teeny tiny snails in my ACF tank - I don't think he knows they're there, or maybe he can't reach them. These were plant joyriders though, not deliberate snails.

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions
