I am completely revamping my 40-gallon tank. I have a lot of green algae stuck to the glass. I tried using a razor blade but it would only scrape off some of the green algae. Part of the glass still remains to be green. I don't want to start on anything with the green algae still on the glass.

What is a good way to scrape it off? Should I wait for the algae to dry up and then start scraping it off the glass?

Please help,

Thanks.

Hi,
I gather that the algae is stuck to the glass because
the water had evaportated, or was drained off to below the
algae and it dried. You can use a safety razor, or fill
the tank to the brim with water and allow it to sit for
a day or so and then scrape it with the razor blade or
try a plastic scrubby on it.

I used a wallpaper scraper that has a razor blade with a handle attached and tons of vinegar. I scraped as much as I could with the razor then scrubbed with a vinegar soaked paper towel. Finally I went over with a microfiber cloth and managed to remove it completely. The tank looks just like when I bought it.

I got rid of my algae and now have bacteria (blue green algae) instead. Algae is much better any day, don't complain. At least it is not toxic.
