hey, hows it going... I was wondering if the two angels that I have a going to be a problem in a colorful community tank... guppies, mollies, and a couple types of tatra that all school together... the angels are large and beautiful and dont mind mollies or tetra but what about the guppies I think that they are beautiful and would add a lot of color to the tank any suggestions, would love some help... the tank is a 55 gallon with two 330 filters one on each side and live java moss which I do believe is starting to die.. if anyone has suggestions on this as well that would be awesome...:%)

Hi,
The Mollies do not belong in that mix. They must have
salt in their water - so much salt that it is brackish.
The Guppy fry will provide live food for the angels,
and perhaps even the tetras when the angels reach their
normal growth of 4-6 inches.

Frank

Hi,
No argument on my part. When ever anyone says you "can't"
there is always some who say I do.
This link describes the fish and its care, it is but one
of many I found in a general search on "Mollies."
It substantiates my comments above:

I dont want to cause an arguement, but more and more mollies are being bred and raised in fw, vs brackish, and they do great in fw community tanks. My lfs actually has fw, brackish and salt water mollies. Ive had fw raised mollies in my fw community tank for a year and a half, and they are doing great.

As for the question, Id be worried about medium to large angels eating guppies, id be very cautious of that mix.

To add something to this, the guppies wont make fry if you keep only females or only males.

Ive had these mollies for a yearish and they love and are actually thriving in my tank which is freshwater but I had a lil salt every now and again to keep everyone happy!! My angels are full grown and not aggressive to the baby tetra that I have that are quite small. shoud I still be cautious with the angels/

If they are fine with your lil fishies, just make sure they have places to hide- floating anachris, or hornwort would be good.

Ive got a 55g with an angel, and 3 f mollies( among other fish) and they get along fine. as far as fry- the angel would keep your population from exploding- but if you want to save any fry- hiding spots are definatly needed, as angels are preditors.

I don't see any problems with your setup. Maybe the Angels will eat any fry that will be born, but as you might already know, live food is very good for them.

i wouldn't see any problems. for what i notced, that older angels don't usually bother other tankmates. mollies are good in F.W , but they do like to have salt in there tank, making them easier for the new aqaurist, so solve for health problems. n.e way if the mollies are fine for a year, then they should be fine in f.w alone.

thanks for the help guys I traded in some of my bigger more challenging fish to take care of and got some guppies and I put them in their own tank and if my population starts to boom then I might use the less desirable babies as food or new tankmates for the 55 gallon. really the only change is that there are less fish in my larger tank and I started using a tank that I had been cycling for a while with live plants and it now has fish. before I get a nasty email... I got rid of the bigger fish because I am leaving for college and cant really take a 55 gallon tank with me or any tank for that matter... and my mom is gonna be watching my tanks so I wanted something on the easier side for her and cheaper that is too!!! I dont need her killing my nice expensive fish Im leaving town for a week so this should be a good trial for moms!! Ill let whoever is interested know how it goes:88)

I've got this setup going myself sans the mollies and my tank is a 75G. My angels are roughly a bit larger then half dollar size and SO FAR have shown no agression towards any smaller fish. Just keep an eye out for that as others have said angels can be known to eat smaller fish.

One thing is for sure... I no longer have an abundance of guppy fry.
