I'm looking for a heater for a 20 gallon tank that will allow me to regulate the temperature of the water to the exact degree. All of the ones I've seen in the stores around me only have heaters with a L/H knob that can be adjusted.

Anyone know where I can find a heater like this?

Me too. I think its annoying having to constantly adjust the heater due to fluctuations.

Are there heaters that can be set to a certain temperature and will automatically adjust accordingly?

Acura and visi-therm both make heaters that can be set by dialing in the appropriate temperature. Each unit has a thermometer like scale on the side that you set once, and then forget it.
Hope that helps.

My fav for submersibles - http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=22407&category_id=1733&pcid1=3231

If you had a canister or something, I'd say http://petsolutions.com/product.asp?pn=41400018, for sure. I have two of these and they keep it exactly what I set it at, throughout the entire tank. LOVE these things.

Woah! How do those canister heater work? I would love one because it would allow me to add more background plants!

DO they attach to the tubes for the canister? And more importantly, how effective will it be in my tank that has a Fluval Canister 203 (111gph) and a AquaClear 150 (150GPH). Would the performance of the heater diminish because I have a powerfilter?

I have two Sera heaters and they have a very good and clear adjustment never a problem.

Sly
With the Eheim Canister the heater is built in if I am correct.

I heat my canister by having the inlet very close to the inlet. This means I do not loose much heat in the canister. It also returns close to a heater near the outlet as well.

Yeah, I just looked over the Eheim Canisters. The ProII 2126 & 2128 have internal heaters. Man, that is so much more convienient that having a seperate heater!

You guys must have more money than I do, lol. The inline heater I'm talking about is 26.00 USD and plugs right into the outflow line of a canister filter, or any other outflow water line you have. http://www.hydor.it/index_en.htm

An Eheim Thermofilter is over 300.00 USD in most cases. Ouch?

It might not be have more money but some could be a lot older, earn more, or prefer to buy only quality items.

One thing to remember a cheap item is not cheap reason being you will have problems, continual replacements, and all these could be very costly if you have a good collection of expensive fish.

When I was flyfishing some would spend over Aust$1000 on a rod alone by the time they added reel and line another $1000. The funny part about all that expence they would not buy good expensive hooks always well under $1 and this is the thing that catches the fish.

The same goes for your tank add all that up, and filtration & heaters are posibly the most important items in the while set up.

This is true...but like I said, a 26 dollar inline heater I gave the link to works great, doesn't have to keep being replaced, and it is a quality item. Having a heater built in to your filter is pretty nifty, but unecessary in my opinion, when you consider the price vs functionality compared to regular Eheims. ( not paying another 100.00 usd to have a heater in my canister )

We were talking about a heater for a 20 gallon tank, right? Think I'm taking us off track, sorry about that, lol.
