I have started heavily planting my 29 gallon, but in order to Jerry-rig the lights on the top of the tank (I don't have the money right now to get a better lighting system) I had to take one of my filters off. I now only have 1 whisper 40. I am thinking I took bacteria out when I took the filter off. To make matters worse, I just cleaned the filters killing a lot of bacteria. BUT I have been adding plants and people say plants help with nitrogen cycle.

Basically, do I have worry about a mini cycle?

Jerry-rig the lights What exactly do you mean by this? Is it possible trying to save $$$ you in the long term spent more $$ ?

Every week at the water change I add a measured amount of Sera Bio Starter also again when I do the canister maintainence clean out.

This keeps up the good bacteria all the time.

Could there still be some bacteria in the water and the base???

I personally would give it a good Bio product but only as directed.

I think you MAY have a tiny cycle, but there should be enough bacteria built up in the substrate and the media of the remaining filter that it should be pretty okay...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

You might have a mini cycle but It really shouldn't be that bad. Unless you completely changed the filter media or washed it out with tap water of the remaining filter.

I would advise that you keep an eye on the ammonia levels for the next day or so. If you see any ammonia/nitrite I would dose the tank with some ammolock.

Adding a full dose of NI Cycle wouldn't hurt tho.
