	Less filtration
Racso Mega Fish Some Assembly Required Posts: 1163 Kudos: 1442 Votes: 35 Registered: 19-Feb-2002	I have started heavily planting my 29 gallon, but in order to Jerry-rig the lights on the top of the tank (I don't have the money right now to get a better lighting system) I had to take one of my filters off. I now only have 1 whisper 40. I am thinking I took bacteria out when I took the filter off. To make matters worse, I just cleaned the filters killing a lot of bacteria. BUT I have been adding plants and people say plants help with nitrogen cycle. Basically, do I have worry about a mini cycle?

Is it possible trying to save $$$ you in the long term spent more $$ ? Every week at the water change I add a measured amount of Sera Bio Starter also again when I do the canister maintainence clean out. This keeps up the good bacteria all the time. Could there still be some bacteria in the water and the base??? I personally would give it a good Bio product but only as directed. iltat Mega Fish Posts: 1076 Kudos: 1216 Votes: 0 Registered: 14-Oct-2002	I think you MAY have a tiny cycle, but there should be enough bacteria built up in the substrate and the media of the remaining filter that it should be pretty okay... Unless you completely changed the filter media or washed it out with tap water of the remaining filter. I would advise that you keep an eye on the ammonia levels for the next day or so. If you see any ammonia/nitrite I would dose the tank with some ammolock. Adding a full dose of NI Cycle wouldn't hurt tho.
