The feeders were Fathead Minnows, but I think they were California-raised and therefore the snails are probably California natives. I can't find much information on most kinds of freshwater snails, however, at least those that aren't from Florida. The ones with the more strikingly-patterned shells I believe are Lymnea (as per this site), but I am not sure about the darker ones with the smaller spots... Physidae? I gave that site a thorough search, but unfortunately I couldn't find anything on the types of snails I found yesterday. I'll try to search some more on Google and see if anything comes up. Snail overpopulation is almost always the result of overfeeding the tank, so try to cut back on the amount of food you give your fish (and consequently the snails). Additionally, if you have live plants in the tank that are dying, that can be another significant food source for the snails. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |
