Needle Fish? | |
BaronOfHell Small Fry Posts: 3 Kudos: 2 Votes: 1 Registered: 24-Sep-2005 | i bought a needle fish from pet smart and it is pretty cool. its acting lazy though. did i make a good desision, he's in a 29 gallon tall tank lighty planted with few rocks 7.0 ph 74-78 degrees f gravel substrate he's with a 2" pleco 6 1/2" asian sun cat i also am feeding him only feeder fish, will he eat any other food like dried or even live nightcrawlers or crickets? also additional car info would be cool Thanks in advance BOH |

Live food is what they will thrive on. You might be able to get them to take pieces of fish as it falls past them, maybe. IMO, that tank will become too small, too soon, for it. Do you have a scientific name or a picture of your fish? Some species I believe are brackish, and if they are being kept in freshwater that will only add to the stress. They do not tolerate salt particularly well. 2. Most needlefish marketed are X. cancila, and due to their amphidromous nature, brackish water would be fine, though adults are found in freshwater as well. 3. They grow quite large--you might want to look into investing in a larger tank. |
