Went to the LFS today and saw they had some pretty healthy looking ottos. So I got four. I think they'll have a field day in my planted 10 with all the algae I have growing all over it! And they have been so far. I was a little worried that my Badis (which is about 2" long and takes any guppies under an inch that I put in the tank) would go after them... he did peck at them when they were in the bag acclimating, but I fed him a bunch of bloodworms before I let them out and he seems to pretty much be leaving them alone. Even though they're not much bigger than those guppies, I think he's leaving them alone because a) they're not dashing madly from hiding place to hiding place and b) they're pretty well armored.

Since I have been dying to figure out what species of Badis my fish is, and last time I was on Fishbase a bunch of their profiles were down. I stopped by again today. Managed to key out/guess that I have Badis blosyrus... which can get up to 4" long!?! Oh boy. (I thought he was full-grown already) At that point maybe I'll give it the paludarium to itself, feed it adult guppies once a week or so... probably won't be safe around the ottos forever...

Here's a shot of the Badis (with shadow and scratch in the glass, unfortunately)

If the Badis can take the Guppies I would not leave it alone with the Ottos.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Actually, Otocinclus are not very well armored. Some species mimic Corydoras catfish, which are comparitively well-armored.

Well all the ottos are perfectly fine this morning. If they were guppies or ghost shrimp some would be missing by now. I think they're safe. If they start turning up injured I'll probably put them in my guppy tank.

Well, I'm down to two ottos now. BUT before you tell me "I told you so" both the fatalities were found completely intact on the filter intake. So here's crossing my fingers that the other two don't succumb to whatever (no apparent symptoms) the other ones dies from.

P.S. I just noticed I passed 1000 posts a while ago. Wow!
