Overstocked Precautions | |
judz Enthusiast Posts: 256 Kudos: 160 Votes: 5 Registered: 06-Jun-2005 | i have a tank that is quite overstocked, my levels are very good. i change my water every friday 35%. there is lots of plants and 14x filteration. all of the fish are very rich in colour, no signs of stress that i know about. is there anything else i should watch out for or do to help keep everything undercontrol? its been a long time since ive overstocked and i might be pushing it. but everything has stayed level and stress-free for the last two weeks. |

You'll want to watch out for high nitrates and/or a drop in pH mostly. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | what is the tank size, i would probably want to move the fish when the loaches get big, but they are slow growers so it should be done the road. |

So we can see if you're overstocked or not. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

You have quite a few fish...your gouramis and especially your clown loaches aren't small fish. I couldn't find much info on the L147, when I Googled it the only result was your profile here ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Watch the tiger barbs...make sure they don't go after the gouramis fins. They are very nippy, especially in smaller groups and a slow moving gourami (or two) would be a great target. You may want to move one of the plecos out. They produce alot of waste. My BN in my 55g keeps me cleaning as he is constantly nastying(is that a word?) up the bottom of the tank. I couldn't imagine having a BN and another 6 inch pleco in a 29g. Question: do your glowlights, neons, and black neons school together? I have 8 neons in my 29g and can't decide on black neons or glowlights to add...so I may do both. |

judz Enthusiast Posts: 256 Kudos: 160 Votes: 5 Registered: 06-Jun-2005 | Just did the weekly water change and testing I tested the water before i changed it ph 7.5 Am 0 NO2 0 NO3 0 (i retested and the real level is 30) temp 80F fish are very vibrant in colour. no fighting outside schools. everyone is alive. plants are growing at a very fast rate, even though there is no CO2 or ferts being put in the water right now (havnt had time to go get another dose). |

djtj Fish Master Posts: 1764 Kudos: 885 Votes: 49 Registered: 20-Feb-2003 | That's impossible. Even in a well-stocked tank, nitrites will be present. If you do not have any, this will mean your tank has yet to cycle and will start producing highly toxic ammonia instead of no3. |

judz Enthusiast Posts: 256 Kudos: 160 Votes: 5 Registered: 06-Jun-2005 | the tank has already cycled, this is not a new tank its been running for about a year now. it was overstocked before, while i was preparing the other fish tanks. I cant see it cycling again for no reason. No3 is the only thing that i thought was wierd. I do not know much about the traits of No3 other then most tanks have it and mine doesnt. i think i was told that plants abosorb it as a form of ferts, maybe explaining why my plants are growing so fast. just a theory |
