Hi all!! I have been a long time reader of the site, but this is the first time I have had a need to post. anyway, I have had my tank for a while and everything has been good, and have kept a steady PH of about 7 with this white powder from the LFS, but lately it seems I cant keep the PH above 6.5, regardless of water changes or the powder? any ideas??

What is your PH and KH out of the tap?

Yeah, might be a good idea to check the ph from the tab (Wings ).

More importantly than KH, what is your tab GH? Meaning, is your water really soft?

Very low GH readings mean that there is not a lot of buffer in the water, so any element that softens water (peat moss, wood) in the tank can cause the ph to drop even further.

KH is the carbonate hardness by the way. And GH is general hardness. Just in case you didn't know what they meant (i didn't know until i needed to check mine).

Do two water tests on your tap water. The first should be directly from the tap. Then let the water sit for 24 hours in a container and test it again. The water should de-gas during the period and your pH will be different or be the TRUE pH.
