i've given an old tank to my sister in law and partner, it's about 10g
22x6x16 tall thin tank, i gave them an idea of what to stock it with, mainly neons, betta few ottos, and such like, nice little stocking lists.

anyway i got a phone call yesturday, they have brought 12 Penguin Tetras which i never suggested, nobody listens to me.

i've told them that i think they are or will be to big for the tank, and should at least reduce the shoal - but they now want a dwarf gourami

now i've been told by the misses to let them make their own mistakes and learn themselves

What would you do and suggest.

Karl

No one ever listens to me either so here is my suggestion, get a piece of paper write I TOLD YOU SO in huge letters and mail it to them. No i am just kidding. But really, sometimes people don't learn untill they make there own mistakes be imfatic that they can't stock that many fish, when they do end up stocking those fish and they start to get sick and or die offer at that time to help them with there fish by taking some of them off their hands if you have the space. Though the general consencious around here is don't buy from stores whom treat fish poorly, it is also thought a good idea to help bail friends out of situations so long as you have the space and they learn there lesson. I am sure others will correct me if I am wrong but that is what I do.

You can end up putting alot of energy into trying to educate people about fishkeeping. The thing to realise is when you are talking to someone with selective hearing and leave them to learn on their own.
Its not good that fish are going to suffer but ultimately it will be on their minds and not yours. You tried to help and they didnt listen..

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
