DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Hi Patty Yes I made it to the LFS on Sunday as per my last post I'll try and sell the moss, and just keep a bit for me. Been a bit distracted trying to locate some fish and plants locally. To find the curviceps is not going to be easy. The Amazon Nut... |

GobyFan2007 Fish Addict Posts: 615 Kudos: 363 Votes: 65 Registered: 03-Feb-2007 | Arrgh! If i would have known the Curviceps would have been such a rare fish, i would have bought them impulsively! I saw them about 6 months ago in the LFS, on clearance for 1.00!!! I saw them, and wanted them, but i decided not to because my 10 gallon had Tiger Barbs in it At the time. I thought the barbs would murder the fish. Now i can find them anywhere, so i guess no cichlids for me...... Good Luck and Cant wait for after pix! ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Hey Goby I can understand that. I've passed on nice fish before due to full tanks or wasn't into that particular breed yet, just to kick myself later. I think when I want a certain fish they are nowhere to be found, when I'm not looking there are tons for sale. I might be looking at an 8 hour round trip for curviceps OR convince contractors at my work that the next time they fly to the U.K. if they can stop by Longhairgit's house for some a dorsigers fry. /drool very nice fish. I feel deprived An update pic coming tomorrow night, got sidetracked. The Amazon Nut... |

DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Just a note here: I just remembered something VERY useful to me before. The Calendar within the 'Log Books' FP provides for us. This is a great way to keep track of anything done or observed in the tanks. I don't keep a written journal (recommended for any fishkeeper) so that is my online journal to keep track of things in a fast and organized way. (and believe me I need it) Very easy to use. I've now updated mine for both tanks and encourage you to get into the practice of using yours if you do not already. The Amazon Nut... |

DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Hmm. I was sitting here minding my own business then... Off to another fishstore I went. Walked out with Apisto Agassizii. Nice little pair of fish to start off the tank I think. Acclimating now, they appear pretty stressed the female in particular so I'm watching them very carefully and crossing my fingers. * sneaks away for a min to update tank log and calendar... Came home with: 3 keyhole cichlids a crypt wendtii 'Tropica' " " 'Mi-Oya' These keyholes aren't shy or timid in the least wow. The Amazon Nut... |

Gone_Troppo Enthusiast Posts: 285 Kudos: 196 Registered: 13-Mar-2007 | Hi MossMan Sorry you didn't get the Laetacara dorsigera that you wanted... are the keyholes going in the tank instead of the dorsigera or as well as if you can get some eventually? Good news about the crypts though... they were two on your original "want list" weren't they? G_T Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Hi Troppo I think the dorsigera will probably still be ordered. Not sure tho or if I will get a pair. The wendtii Tropica wasn't on my list but it has a nice reddish brown tone to it and larger more rounded leaves then the other crypts in the tank. The Mi-Oya I was after. Just filling some space, haven't planted them yet. I might buy an ozelot sword or rubens sword tomorrow as I can't find ozelot red for the life of me. The keyholes seem to be settling well so far and I had them eating meat lovers then spirulina flakes, then freeze dried brine shrimp and bloodworms. Ate like piggies and not shy at all with me or the apistos. I just hope they acclimate well and are ok. The Amazon Nut... |

GobyFan2007 Fish Addict Posts: 615 Kudos: 363 Votes: 65 Registered: 03-Feb-2007 | Dont mean to take over or anything, but just a quick question: Can i put some harlequin rasboras with the Keyholes and apistos? What kind of cichlid could i get that i can have in a nice community tank? I plan to have a 30g long, or even a 40g long! I am hoping to get a nice tank, and i dont know what stocking i should get. I love the way the rasboras shoal better that the tetras. I also like the red frilly tail tetra, but they arent in such a nice school. Good job BTW! Just be sure to not buy on impulse! that is what happened to me when i literally ruined my 20g. I cant wait to see pix! Good luck! ~Goby ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Hi Goby, For a community tank I'd recommend Bolivian Rams, gold rams or keyholes. Rasboras OR tetras should be ok with them. Make sure they are not red-eye tetras. More pics will come soon haven't done anything the last few days. I'll have to get those crypts in though, and shift others around until I pull them. Tip: 1 fish, group of fish or plant bought hastily or without researching can defeat what you were trying to achieve in the tank in the first place. Getting collectoritis is all too easy as well. GobyFan2007 Fish Addict Posts: 615 Kudos: 363 Votes: 65 Registered: 03-Feb-2007 | YES! Great find on the Ozelots! Cant wait for pix! Well, impulse buying is horrible, and now i plan to get Rasboras.....I already got 4 of them.....Another Impulse Buy...... I really had no plan for my tank, and it was just an add plants here and there type of tank. Now, since i did my re arrangement of my tank, i am trying to get a nice layout. I will definately plan out the 30 gallon long! I also hate when i saw some Bolivian Rams with beautiful colors! I didnt buy it because i thought they were agressive (Coz theyre cichlids) and also cause i thought they needed hard and alkaline water......Shoulda researched them! Thanks again, and i cant wait for some Pixx! ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Did this last night and stayed up too late. Removed mopani cave. Removed snail shells. Deep vacced area where cave was. Scubbed cave - removing moss strands & most of the bba. Put cave back on less angle then before. 7.5g water change in the process. 2 caps flourish excel Planted: Crypt Wendtii 'Tropica' & 'Mi-Oya' E. ozelot and E. Rubin Moved a couple other plants. No attempt at scaping yet, crypts were in the bag 2 days, swords a day, just wanted to get them all in as it was late. Good chance the crypts will melt not looking so hot atm. Nitrate test tonight = 30. Water quality is almost there ! The Amazon Nut... |

DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | And the pics taken today... The C. wendtii 'Tropica' couple leaves are melting. Still to do some cleanup on the filter intake. The fake cave on the left have to pull the rest of the fake plants off, scrub, and vac below and around. But it's shaping up All the fish are settling in nice but I hardly see the female apisto. She was already a shy little thing and I think the very active keyholes are too much for her. fish patty Fish Addict Posts: 539 Kudos: 223 Votes: 255 Registered: 04-Oct-2006 | Lookin good mossman! Congrats on the new purchases, new plants, new fish! I'll like to see this tank once it's grown up. Maybe then the female Apisto will come out more. Either then or when you get those plecos, they will chase her out from her hiding places. |

GobyFan2007 Fish Addict Posts: 615 Kudos: 363 Votes: 65 Registered: 03-Feb-2007 | Nice! Coming along well i guess. I think that the crypts will not give you too much of a problem, and if you change some water, it will help to rid the chemical faster. The BNs will chase her out of her spot, im sure, but if you want to see her regularly, find out where shes hiding, and then put it in a position that reveals her. If it is placed correctly, it might be just the thing you wanted! An angle would display her.... ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Thanks Patty and Goby Dealing with a couple issues right now in the tanks. A good thing was did some testing last night, found an issue with my gh. Way too high for my liking. http://www.fishprofiles.com/logbooks/tanks.aspx?uid=3957&tank=2 All the other stats look good. No mini-cycle. Will do water changes every other day or 2 until the gh is knocked down. The keyholes have established their pecking order, and have been somewhat aggressive with each other but not the apistos. Last night I got home from work, found the 3rd keyhole stuck behind the co2 ladder. That was close. He must have been getting away from a tormentor. His tail is a bit frayed, the other has a tiny wound. Haven't heard back on dorsigera. I suspect ick or parasite in the tank as well. Melafix and Metronidazole in there. The Amazon Nut... |

DaMossMan Fish Guru Piranha Bait Posts: 2511 Kudos: 2117 Votes: 359 Registered: 16-Nov-2003 | Thanks Patty, Apistos are sensitive but spunky too. I'm fairly sure she had a parasite from the fishstore. After her first few days in the tank I hardly seen her eat barely a nibble. Dosed with Metronidazole right away but not in time That's a male apisto agassizii, will be awhile now before I can find him a mate. The Amazon Nut... |

Scratch that, lost the male apisto last night It appeared to be internal parasites and the Metro didn't fix, someone recomended Prazi-Pro but it was too late. It's either replace the apistos, or hold out for a pair/group of dorsigera or curviceps. I REALLY like aggies though The Amazon Nut... |
