Story Of The Open Topped Tank. | |
GregB Small Fry Posts: 5 Kudos: 3 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-May-2007 | Had my wife call me at work ( this was along time ago) to tell me that one of my fish jumped outta the tank... He was a eel type not sure what kinda anymore but he looked more like a 8 inch black worm than a eel. So... I tell her " grab him and put him back in the tank!!" " NO WAY!!! " LOL she is scared of it.. must be cause it looks like a worm!.. So I rush home to save him.. but I was too late Had a flying Gar too... I opened the tank to feed them and everything went slow motion has my 14 inch gar sails out of the tank only to hit the floor some 5 feet from the tank... swimin like hell to who knows where... I was in time to save him tho... he looked like a hairy gar after that.. slimy fish pick up alot of debris when used as a mop! Quote Rain " I have always believed that this hobby is the art of keeping water and that the fish are just something pretty to look at." |

My poor Hongi Island was in my tank less than 24 hours.... poor mite. The distance from the tank showed me how much the creature struggled. I felt awful. Hope you have lids for all your tanks now (I know the gar leapt out at feeding time - opportunist fish!). Welcome to the site and hope to see more of you on the boards. ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

I think many people would be surprised by fishes' jumping abilities (even of those you wouldn't suspect much from, like male bettas) and their ability to fit through some small spaces. |

Talk about unexpected it startled me. I did save him tho. Also My cats don't like drinking their water, but drinking straight from the aquarium, Or the HOB filter. She knocks off the cover and then drinks her fill. I think I have broken her of that though. mts.gif" border="0"> I vote do you? My Tanks at Photobucket |

If I should leave the room to get something or to adjust the valve on the python, I'd come back and find one of them perched on three legs and swiping at the fish with the fourth. I kept waiting for one of them to loose their footing. The cats are attracted to the moving water which they equate to a flowing stream and free of chemicals. We have purchased this item from Drsfostersmith and have never had a problem with the cats and the HOB filter. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=1783 We skipped the grass part. Mouse pretty much ignores it and goes for the tank.Putting tape on the floor sticky side up works pretty good The cats cant get close enough to the tank to jump up on top. mts.gif" border="0"> I vote do you?
