At the shop yesterday a customer traded in some fish. Amongst the fish was one that looked exactly like a SAE except it had a bright orange stripe above the normal centre black/dark one.

Any ideas what it is? It was about 4 inches long and definately not timid.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

That's what I'm thinking...also called a red-line shark I believe (even though they are barbs). Awesome looking fish.

I would love to get my hands on some...they are very nice looking!

Definitely sounds like a Denisonii Barb. A large one like the one you mentioned could easily sell for $40+ (USD). That would probably be like... $60 Australian?

They are not cheap fish, but they make excellent aquarium inhabitants.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

It doesnt have colour on the dorsal though and the stripe is very thin and goes all the way to the tail.

I would be happy if it was a denisoni barb because they arent on our import list yet. It would be worth a small fortune!

Thanks Natalie, it looks very much like Crossocheilus cobitis. I'm on the right track now so i'll search a bit more.
