What fish food? I am getting low on my supermarket food for tropical fish and need to do an online order but what to get? There are heaps of different types of food for different types of fish and different brands for different prices.

List of fish to feed: Sparkling gourami, dwarf gourami, moonlight gourami, pearl gourami, white cloud mountain minnows, lemon tetra, neon tetra, black neon tetra, cardinal tetra, pearl danio, leopard danio, guppies, guppy fry, shrimp, apple snail, angel fish, bolivian butterfly, clown loach, khuli loach, bn catfish, whiptail catfish, various cories, flying fox shark, glass catfish.

Live or dried foods available: tubliflex worms, black worms, bloodworms, mosquito larvae. Do I get a bit of each or is one far superior in that lot?

Flake foods: Which one do you prefer?

Algae wafers: Which is best for my bottom dwellers? They eat lots of them but there seems to be so many different brands.

Is there a special food I should be getting for my fish? There seems to be many different pellets but my fish are all little ones at present.

It is all so confusing and I don't want a bigger fish food bill than my people grocery bill.

ps Sorry if my post colors are odd, I have been messing with my profile. Now if I could just decide on the best avatar..

I d go for this:

Freshwater multipack of frozen livefoods for variety. If you want the most frequent use low cal livefood use brineshrimp, bloodworm for fattening up and conditioning and daphnia for a top up on the farlowellas micropredation. Hence recommending you get variety packs.

Tetra pro crisps for the flakes, veggie and colour or standard.

Tetra prima or sera sinking granules for a bit of midwater feeding.

A little minipack of hikari cichlid pellets so the rams get some balance.

Hikari algae wafers and catfish pellets or carnivore pellets for the bottom dwellers, and use a bit of cucumber or zucchini once in a while.

I feed most of my fish a mixture of Flakes, Granules, sinking pellets & frozen foods, as i mostly have Livebearers, Tetras, Corydoras & Tang. cichlids. I try to feed them twice daily & one of my feeds is Spirulina. The other feeding is always different & i try to vary as much as possible.

If you are not 100% sure of what mix to get buy a selection of foods but all in the smallest containers they have, except for the ones that you know and trust. Stick to the good quality brand names.

I never buy freeze dried food I personally don't think it is a good quality food compared to all the good selections of foods you can get today.

I also buy locally Frozen Blood worms in a 10 pack and this usually 50% cheaper.

Where are you getting it from?

Ok the fishfood order is in, yay. For livefoods/frozen stuff I can just tootle down to the lfs as I usually don't use a lot and it lasts in the freezer.

I have ordered Aquasonic fry starter (in case of babies)
Wardley algae discs (2 packs as they were on special)
Tetra colour bits
Tetramin Tropical tablets
Breeders blend flake (got that spirulina stuff in)
and last but not least a little pack of Tetra Chiclid Mini Granules.

If I have forgotten special food for anyone talk to the hand.

Several reasons. First there is so much choice of other foods out there why?
I also never buy live foods reason the possibility of importing a problems, that is not that I don't like them I think they are great and if homegrown all the better.

The Freeze dried to me is just dried food with no nourishment. It must be mixed with tank water first or there is a possibility it will/could expand in the their stomach. No need to tell you the problems there.
Finally it is the only food I have ever go off and I mean off it stunk.

Tetra Chiclid Mini Granules.

These granules are really small and I suspect they might get stolen by some of your other fish. IF they end up not working for you I'd suggest one of the hikari cichlid foods, they come in all sizes but most likely the mini would work for you.
