| What new fish to buy? | |
Mike R![]() Fish Addict Posts: 593 Kudos: 830 Votes: 322 Registered: 27-Jul-2004 ![]() | Yeah Kieth, I have 7 Clowns in a 75 and at the moment 6.5 inches is the biggest. I don't know of anyone except Garyroland who has had one bigger than 7 inches and I don't know how long it took for them to get that big. Maybe Gary will chime in with an answer. IMO Angels and Clowns go great together. Angels hang in the middle and Clowns spend alot of time near the bottom. Angels are not as sensative to current as some people claim. My tank has 2 330s and 2 powerheads. The Angels do just fine. If you did notice the Angels were struggleing I'm sure adjustments could be made in the decor or the direction of the powerheads to baffle the current. Good luck, Mike |

I gave away the blue loach (forgot if I mentioned this earlier) in less than 12 hours of bringing him home. Got me 6 blue rams. I also got 2 juvenile Tuxedo Angels and 2 full grown black angels that are a pair and may spawn sometime in the next 3 months. I have to now get ready and prepare a tank for them to spawn in. I am going to get me a male crown betta. I would love to keep a female as well, but I dont think it will work out. ![]() |

Okay, so I got greedy and bought the blue loach, but the advice I got from you guys was right. The size and demeanor was a problem. I gave him back to the fish store in less than 12 hours, he scratched the backs of Walter (one of my bigger clowns) and another 1 1/2 inch fellow. In exchange for him, I got some blue rams. They seem peaceful and are shoaling with the clowns.... :%) I am thinking of some black veil tail angels for the centre of the tank. Sevrums look good, but I dont want them to make a lunch out of my Kuhlies. The other fish I saw this weekend and really liked were the Red Devil and Puffer fish. But they both did not look compatible, I did not even have to ask the store keeper. My problem with the dither fish remains. Discus are very expensive here, about $100 US for a good sized pair. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And yes, I am keeping the clowns, Keith. Infact, I saw this really beautiful 4 inch clown (very very expensive), but I think I am going to go get him soon. More Edit**** Oh yes, and I love bettas. I was wondering if I could keep 1 male and 2-3 females in my fish tank. They have a reputation of killing the females, I think. Would they do that if kept together in a 79 gal with plenty of spaces to hide? Last edited by Clownygirl at 02-Nov-2004 08:25 Last edited by Clownygirl at 02-Nov-2004 08:30 |

FishBone![]() Fingerling Posts: 16 Kudos: 16 Votes: 2 Registered: 21-Oct-2004 ![]() | The size difference between ur clown loaches and the blue loaches is something that could be a problem. The tank size is OK for now but you will soon find that the botton dwellers are going to run out of space. You probabbly shld give away the blue loach and go for angels or Gold Sevrums. The Rams shld be OK. |

I am glad to hear that angels and clowns go well together. I went fish shopping today, gave away the 2 tiger sharks and saw some very beautiful Blue Botia/Orange Fin Loachs ( 3 inches in length) and some real beautiful Blue RamS/ramirezi. I wanted to know if these will go well with my 1 n half inch clown loaches ? Can I go for three (3 inch) blue loaches ? Can I go for these...???? perhaps 3 rams and one blue loach ? My tank is a 79 gallon tank. Lt 48" x Br 18" x Ht 21" with a couple of caves and peices of driftwood. Will try and get you a pic if possible. please advice :%) Last edited by clownygirl at 31-Oct-2004 12:14 |

Dolf![]() Enthusiast Posts: 203 Kudos: 180 Votes: 46 Registered: 09-May-2004 ![]() | I keep severums and clowns together. They pretty much ignore each other, swimming at different levels. But with kuhlis, I think the severums would view them as lunch. Same for blue acaras. Festuvums might work well. They don't get as big and are not as aggresive. Maybe long fin barbs. Similar colors to the clowns, but completely diferent shape and activity. |

I have a 79 gal with 9 clown loaches, 2 zebra loaches, 3 kuhli loaches and 4 common plecos. After I give away the sharks, what new fish do you suggest I add? I would also like some suggestions on centre fish and a fish that will shoal. |

Not knowing your tank design or what you can buy in your area. It is rather difficult to give an exact correct answer. I personally would keep the clowns (what size are they now) and slowly build around that. Clowns are very easy to look after, if you provide them with all the necessary foods and areas they can claim as their own. Either that do a total restart. Go to many aquariums as possible take notes then do some research as what is combatable to each other and your tank conditions/type. Post a photo of you tank if possible this could help members to assist you better. Are they agressive. And yes, I can see the plecos fighting already, but they have plenty of territories at the moment, so it is not that bad. |

You have all bottom-dwelling fish so there are quite a few options. For schooling fish there are all sorts of tetras, rasboras, barbs, rainbowfish, even danios. Tiger barbs are popular and can be nippy which is why I think barbs have that reputation. But it's not a fact that all barbs are nippy. For centerpiece fish you could have one species of gourami, or a combination. Cichlids...angelfish, blue acara, keyholes, rams. Are there any fish you're particularly interested in? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I have heard, if u keep a large school, the nipping can stay under control. Are they going to be bothersome with the clowns? Also, I think I like rummy nose tetras. I also like some angels, but my filter is very strong and causes quite an agitation in the water and therefore I am not thinking of getting any. What fish like fast moving water? I am new to fishkeeping, and other than loaches, angels, bettas and plecos, I havent kept many fish. I would like to keep a male and female betta, but is there going to be much fighting? |
